Admiralty Distillers (est. 2011) is focused on high quality brandies, whiskey, and gin. We use locally sourced material as we can and then work our way out. Everything is made in house, in our stills.
Shutter Plank Whiskey was developed by fine tuning the mash bill, conducting yeast trials, and trying different barrel profiles over time. Quite frankly we’re still having fun exploring variations.
We create our spirits in a port town on the banks of the Admiralty Inlet.

Released in December, 2016, Admiralty Distillers’ Shutter Plank Whiskey is the product of barley malts and locally grown organic rye. The spirit is distilled in a 150 gallon still and aged in American oak in their Port Townsend, WA distillery.

Boat building is a major industry in Port Townsend and this whiskey’s name is a nod to the “whiskey” or “shutter” plank, which is the last plank installed on a wooden boat being built or repaired. Traditionally, the planking crew has a ‘wee nip’ in celebration of that milestone.
